Position Description

SCP is looking for a highly motivated full-time Mining Equity Research Associate to join its team in Toronto.  This positon will report to Brock Salier, a Partner of SCP and the UK-based head of research for SCP. The primary duties and responsibilities of this technical position include:

  • Sell-side mining equity research
  • Attending daily meetings with CEOs of mining companies
  • Attending global mining and exploration site visits, across Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Americas
  • Writing daily internal news briefings to the global team
  • Preparing daily equity research notes for external publication
  • Preparing longer company initiations and sector notes for external publication
  • Building detailed DCF models, including integrated financial statements

Candidate Academic and Experience Requirements:

  • Candidates must have strong academics and a geology degree from a leading university, with a graduate degree in Andean/epithermal preferred
  • Candidates must either have field experience as an exploration geologist or an MSc/PhD in porphyry/epithermal systems, with site experience copper/gold exploration (ideally in Central / South America) preferred
  • A demonstrated interest in financial markets is required; while financial services work experience is not required, candidates must be able to demonstrate some knowledge of, and interest in, financial statements and financial modelling
  • An MBA, CFA, MSc finance degree or business development experience is advantageous
